What is the FriendSafe Personal Safety Program?

Friends with Dignity and SOS Watch have partnered to provide a nationwide first in the Domestic Violence field, by providing monitored personal safety alarms to individuals or families affected by Domestic and Family violence throughout Australia.

The SOS Watch uses the latest technology, and not only provides the ability to get instant support in an Emergency, but also different health applications to help keep you up to date with your wellbeing. The watch looks and runs like a normal watch, however has the ability to contact emergency services with the push of a button (no need to locate your phone).

Complementing the Friends With Dignity Urgent Request program, the FriendSafe initiative will provide an extra level of security to help those who have fled a violent situation, as well as those who may still be at risk, by providing them with a personal safety device – the SOS watch.

We believe this watch could revolutionise the DV landscape for victims in Australia.

Our FriendSafe program is an initiative established to ensure everyone is able to practice a basic need of feeling safe and provide immediate response when feeling threatened or at risk.

We believe these devices will be used by victims of Domestic Violence, who are:

  • Still living in their homes with the perpetrator, or the perpetrator has been removed from the family home;
  • Victims that have fled their homes and are currently homeless, awaiting availability in Refuge or housing;
  • Living in their new homes. However the perpetrator has tracked them down and they currently feel unsafe in their home, or unsafe to undertake everyday activities outside of the home.

All of these survivors of Domestic Violence may feel their personal and family security is at risk. The Watch will provide direct access to an Emergency Response Centre (ERC), 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The ERC personnel respond to the emergency whenever the alert button is pressed. Highly trained staff will assess your emergency and will take the appropriate course of action. In the event of an acute emergency, Police will be dispatched to the wearer immediately.

This program will be available via direct self referral or through an agency or service dealing with Domestic and Family violence, to be used in conjunction with the Client’s Safety Management Plan.
